CRAZY, or C.R.A.Z.Y. is a Quebec-made movie that covers more than a two decades time span. Our protagonist, Zachry Beaulieu is the second youngest son of a crowded family. He was born on Christmas day in1960, so he always receives one big present on his b-day, for both occasions.( BTW, the title stands for the first letter of the sons names: Christian, Raymond, Antoine, Zack & Yvan). Oops, looks like I'm getting too close to the details. In short, CRAZY is a atypical Quebec film that talks about a typical Quebec family in the 60's - 70's. People says that the deco set is recreated to perfection, I have to take their words for it, because, you see, I wasn't around at that time + + It really is a family movie( rated 13+) in the sense the theme of family is fully exploited. The love of a father, the love of a mother, the love of a child, the love of a sibling...Lots of misunderstanding, fights and reconciliation. It is also a coming-of-age movie with a little "queer-titude". I am handing out the punch( well, not really):Zack is sexually ambivalent since his childhood(yup, the kid who loved to play dress-up) and later in his teen years he will have a crush on his cousin's boyfriend(how convenient). There are still a gazillion things to be told, but the length of my entry is limited. To me , he'd be better be bi...Gosh that boy is good-looking! I could watch this movie over and over again, only to see little Zach grows into that glam-rock demi-god -O- I was quite surprised when I learnt that CRAZY is actually a 7 millions project. I guess a huge part of the budge went to the soundtrack copyrights: to name a few, Bowie and Pink Floyd. That smells expensive. But absolutely worth the money. I know you are becoming impatient so I will cut from here. CRAZY is a really good movie but not a GREAT one, I recommend to rent it when it comes out on video.
P.S.
Is it true that Marc-Andre who plays Zach works at HMV? Is it why he looks vaguely familliar to me(maybe in my dreams, lol) You see, in Quebec, even the biggest of the stars will wait in the same line as you at Provigo to pick up some toilet paper. I am not complaining.
Dear readers, please excuse me for errors in my post.
From the girl who has to attend Eng 111 in fall...how humiliating...
